Incredibly versatile, container classrooms provide a cost-effective and convenient solution for South African schools that require additional space.
Take these 3 classrooms Topshell manufactured for Rhenish Primary School as an example.
Constructed from 3 x 12 m high cube containers, each unit is fully insulated for comfort, and features 3 aluminium windows, 2 sliding doors, and a hand basin. To withstand the high foot traffic, the floors were finished with hardwearing Polyurethane.
Generally, conjoined container classrooms would require supporting columns. To maximize the space, we decided to reinforce the roof with a special structure instead.
This design also makes provision for future expansion. By stacking containers on top of each other, the school can easily extend its space.
We also framed the classroom, so that the school can clad the containers at their convenience.
